In this article, we will take a look at an example of how you can use the EDM to see whether the participants in a particular project come from particular community segments, for example, low income communities who those where participants have limited English proficiency.
To get started, first open the participant map for your project. In the below example, the blue pins show the location of participants in your project.
To filter data about the participants in your survey, you can use map layers. Click on the Layer icon at the top right of the page.
In the next dialog, click on the EPA EJSCREEN LAYERS tab.
On this tab is a list of what layers are available to analyze the demographics about participants in your survey.
For example, perhaps you'd like to see if any participants come from communities in the 95th percentile for limited English proficiency. To do this, tick the associated checkbox and then click Apply.
Your original map will be displayed with a new layer for the layer option you have chosen. In this example, the yellow areas show communities where a specific segment of participants in your survey are located. In this case, the segment is participants who are in the 95th percentile for limited English proficiency.
You can apply multiple layers, or filters, to your map. For example, perhaps you would like to know in which communities participants who fell into the 95th percentile for limited English proficiency also fall into the 95th percentile for low income.
To do this, tick the associated checkbox and then click Apply.
On your map, you will see, in green, which communities fall into the 95th percentile for low income.
Analyzing these filter results can provide powerful insights into your market demographics.
