All images uploaded to PublicInput.com must be no more than 10MB (megabytes) in size and cannot be copied and pasted into the system. If your image is too large, it will not be uploaded to your library. Learn how to find your image size info here.

Portal Header Image

Header Background

  • Usage: The header background image appears at the top of your organization's public portal.

  • Recommended Minimum Size: 1600 x 400 pixels

  • Ideal Aspect Ratio: 4:1

  • Design Tip: Darker images with no text or complicated designs work best for contrast and readability of overlay text. The header background image should be free of text and logos, which go in the overlay image (see "Overlay" below)

Header Overlay

  • Usage: Use a header overlay image to customize your header branding with a logo or text.

  • File Types: Transparent .pdf files or vector files are recommended.

  • Recommended Minimum Size: 800 x 200 pixels

  • Ideal Aspect Ratio: 4:1

Project Images

Icons (Including Logos)

  • Usage: The icon is displayed with the project title block and appears on the public portal alongside the project title.

  • Recommended Minimum Size: 200 x 200 pixels

  • Ideal Aspect Ratio: 1:1

Top-of-Page Banner

  • Usage: The top-of-page banner is shown at the top of your project page and may appear when users share or link your project on social media.

  • Recommended Minimum Size: 1600 x 400 pixels

  • Ideal Aspect Ratio: 4:1

Featured Image

  • Usage: The featured image appears on the public portal alongside the project title.

  • Recommended Minimum Size: 1200 x 600 pixels

  • Ideal Aspect Ratio: 2:1

Survey Question Images

Add Image

  • Usage: Survey question images are added directly to surveys to help clarify questions and options for the public.

  • Recommended Minimum Size: 600 x 400 pixels

  • Ideal Aspect Ratio: 3:2

  • Design Tip: Detailed images are fine to use, as participants will have the option to zoom images to full size on desktop, or pinch to zoom on mobile.

FAQ:

Why is my image not uploading?

If you're having trouble uploading an image, it may be because your file is too large. All image files must be under 10MB to be uploaded to your PublicInput image library. It's best to check the image's size before trying to add images to your library.

Why is my image blurry?

If your aspect ratio and pixel size match PublicInput's recommendations but the image appears blurry, the image resolution is likely too low for the display size. Starting with a higher-resolution image and using image editing software to resize/rescale images properly will help reduce the likelihood of blurriness in photos.

Can my icon be a circle?

Yes. The icon can be a circle within the square, however it is still recommended to maintain a 1:1 aspect ratio. If you are using a rectangular shaped icon, please use a minimum dimension of at least 200 pixels.

Why can't I paste images into my project?

There is no limitation to the file size that is accepted when pasting and it can consequentially cause extended load times and the loading to eventually fail altogether.

What's the difference between .jpg .jpeg and .png?

.jpg and .jpeg can be used interchangeably and are the same. .Jpg (.jpeg) is best for photographs and images with complex colors. .png is best for images requiring transparency, logos, icons, and images with text.

What file type should I choose?

Choosing between JPEG and PNG depends on the specific needs of your project. Use JPEG for photos and images where file size is a concern and high levels of detail are not important. Use PNG for images that require transparency or where maintaining high image quality is important.
