“Life is like a 10-speed bicycle. Most of us have gears we never use.”

This project will help you practice what you’ve learned. Images, question prompts and responses will be provided to reduce the mental load of creating a project from scratch. However, this will not be a step-by-step guide.

Feel free to use the video or guides if you get stuck.

Let's get those gears moving!

Step 1: Set the Goal

This project aims to learn how our residents feel about cycling in their community. We want to understand their level of safety, ease of accessing bike paths, and general thoughts.

With this information, we plan to present a budget proposal to increase alternative transportation spending to create more bike-friendly areas.

Step 2: Define the Target Audience

These are the community members we will be focusing on:

  • Current bike commuters

  • Recreational cyclists

  • Cycling athletes

  • Potential cyclists who do not feel safe riding right now

  • We have a large population of people who speak Tagalog

Step 3: Collect Project Resources

These will be provided within the project as either hyperlinks or images directly on the page to be saved/downloaded.

Step 4: Your Turn to Build

1. Create a project named “Practice Bike Project_Your Name” in the “Sandbox” department of your Engagement Dashboard with the following settings:

  • Project anonymity set to “ Allow Anonymous”

  • Add a shape, pinpoint, or .KML as your project location

2. Add this banner image to your project.

3. Add a project description.

“We are seeking community feedback on how you feel about cycling in our area. With this information, we plan to present a budget proposal to increase alternative transportation spending to create more bike-friendly areas.”

4. Customize the CTA button.

  • It will read “Participate” by default. Change this to “Engage Here.”

Don’t forget to save at this point!

6. Add a sidebar with the following content:

7. Make an end-of-survey button.

  • Change the button to say, “Ride On”

  • Make sure you save your work!

8. Translate your survey into Tagalog. There is no need to add this link to a segment.

Now, check out how your project looks!

Step 5: Your Turn to Manage

1. In the project settings tab:

  • As the project administrator, ensure you will receive inbound email notifications.

  • Remove yourself from receiving moderation notifications.

2. Find the project URL and add it to your project description as a hyperlink.

3. Use your work email to email the project.

  • Put the subject as “Test.”

  • Add whatever you want in the body of the email.

  • Respond to your email from within the project.

4. Use the login-free access button to take the survey yourself.

5. Create a dynamic report.

  • Name it “Your Name_Test_Bike Project”

  • Change one chart type - your choice.

  • Add this description and photo to the top of the report under the header:

    • “This is an example of a report.”

Congratulations!

You have just built your first project.
