Can You Track QR Code Scans in PublicInput?

While all registrations are logged in PublicInput, the system does not differentiate between those who arrived via QR codes versus other sources by default. However, these codes are configured in a way to leverage PublicInput's Google Analytics (GA) integration to provide this insight.

Automatic UTM Parameters for QR Codes

To make tracking easier, PublicInput now automatically appends UTM parameters to QR code links generated in the admin dashboard.

  • utm_source=publicinput

  • utm_medium=qr_code

Why does this matter? Each time a QR code is scanned, the link is tracked in GA as publicinput / qr_code under Source/Medium. This lets staff see exactly how many sessions, events, or conversions resulted from physical signage.

How to View QR Code Engagement in Google Analytics

  1. Log in to your Google Analytics account.

  2. Navigate to Acquisition β†’ Campaigns.

  3. Filter by Source/Medium and search for publicinput / qr_code.

  4. Review your session counts, events, or conversions specifically from QR code scans.

This method gives you a clear, filtered view of participation that originated from contactless sign-in at physical events or signage, distinct from traffic through other channels.

Tip: Make sure your Google Analytics property is connected to your PublicInput account. All QR codes generated through the admin UI will automatically include these tracking parameters.
